Abstract

In this study we estimated rainfall intensity using the time difference in the detection of rainfall between an X-band multi-parameter radar (X-MP radar) and a series of rain gauges. The rainfall intensity was calculated by the time difference in the detection of rainfall and an equation was used for determining the terminal velocity of the raindrops. The raindrop diameter can be considered to represent the height between the ground level and the lower atmosphere, which the X-band MP radar detects. The determination of the rainfall intensity (both 1 min and 10 min temporal scales) by X-MP radar was improved at the point of ten raingauge stations located 21 to 42 km from the radar site.
